Baptism & Confirmation

We believe that baptism is a significant symbol of

  • the Gospel: by grace and through faith our sins are washed away (Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21)

  • belonging to Christ’s spiritual body (the church): we have been ‘baptised into Christ’s death’ and now raised to new life in Him (Romans 6:1-4, 1 Corinthians 12:13)

We hope this page will help your thinking about baptism.

Adult Baptism

If you are an adult who was not baptised as an infant, but in faith now wishes to be so, we’d love to hear from you. Our hope is to see many people each year publicly confess their faith in Christ through baptism.

Infant Baptism (‘Christening’)

Infant baptism is a celebration of God’s grace in the hope that children grow up knowing Jesus their whole life. Infant baptism has a view to see that child grow up and confess for themselves that which they have been baptised into.

Infant baptism involves a weightier public commitment on the part of parents and godparents, since they are making promises on behalf of the child. Baptism is for those who:

  • Have an established personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour;

  • Regularly attend church (Christ’s spiritual body) and are involved in the life of the congregation;

  • Want their child to know God as they do and are committed to raise him/her to know God’s word and His people.

Because of the serious nature of the public statements and promises made by the adults in the service, we only offer infant baptism to those who exhibit a clear faith in Christ as active members of Toongabbie Anglican Church. Of course, we realise that godparents will often come from other churches.

We would love to be in discuss these things with you if you’re interested or have questions.
